Our Community & Beyond

Gustav’s and The Rheinlander supports the local community. Locally owned and operated and serving our guests for over four decades, we make every effort to buy fresh, natural ingredients through local and regional sources that employ sustainable business practices. Through this approach, hundreds of jobs are provided for our employees and suppliers who then give back to each other. Thank you very much for your continued patronage and support.

World Down Syndrome Day at der Rheinlander

The Northwest Down Syndrome Association is hosting a fundraiser at der Rheinlander restaurant on NE Sandy and 50th Avenue on March 21 to celebrate World Down Syndrome Day. The 5 to 8 p.m. event will feature singing servers, live accordion music and German fare off of an a la carte menu. Call 503-288-5503 to reserve a spot.

World Down Syndrome Day started in 2005 to create a global voice for the rights, inclusion and well-being of people with Down syndrome. The 21st of March (21/3) represents the 3 copies of chromosome 21, which is unique to people with Down syndrome. The aim of World Down Syndrome Day is to promote awareness and understanding, seek international support, and to achieve dignity, equal rights and a better life for people with Down syndrome everywhere.

The relationship between Northwest Down Syndrome Association and der Rheinlander began two years ago with the annual Buddy Walk at the Rose Quarter. In 2010, the Oktoberfest celebration at der Rheinlander raised funds to help support the NWDSA in providing a Winter Social for their members and families. Der Rheinlander will proudly support the NWDSA in events throughout the year; including the 2011 Buddy Walk.

Haiti Donations

With the help of your generosity we were able to raise over $1,600 to donate to Mercy Corp’s efforts in Haiti. We were glad to match these donations by 100%, bringing the grand total raised to over $3,200. These donations will help to provide water, food and shelter to those in need during this devastating time.

Thank you again for your support of our restaurant and generous efforts to make a difference in our community.
